A big new year's resolution for me was to finish my unfinished projects. Although I love creative activities, I have project ADD and a lot of grand plans. I've decided to implement some creative discipline this year and push to finish projects that have sat around for a while (some of them, years).
Today I celebrate the finish of a very odious project that I've been avoiding for oh... about a year: cushion cover. I hate sewing.
Oh joy it is done! And I love getting to cross off another project from the list. 6 down- not bad for only February.
How are your new year's resolutions going?

A thing of beauty: art
My grandmother brought me this small canvas today. She used to own a frame and art supply business where they taught art classes. This was painted by my grandfather with a method called tole painting. I love the colors and the delightful surprise that it was painted by my "papa".

A thing of beauty
I found this image in a Life Magazine from the 70s. My grandparents have saved boxes of them, who knows why. It was taken in Mexico by photographer John Dominis. This faded and, as you can see, creased image is glued to cardstock and taped up near my desk. Besides including some of my favorite colors (grey and green) I think it's a beautiful photo for it's content alone. There is the loveliness of the girl, the simplicity of her dress, and the striking burst of the white lillies but there's quite a poignancy. She seems to strain under the weight of the flowers and her feet are shuffling. This photo makes me want to go sit with the flower sellers in Mexico or India and know them.
Any favorite images or photos hanging around your desk?
